Urban Imprint
Project: kinetic installation
Date: 2019 Scope: Concept, mechanism design, prototype construction, production Commissioned by: studio INI, A/D/O Venue: A/D/O |
Manos Vordonarakis during his collaboration with studio INI as lead designer and subcontractor, developed at his studio the idea of a transformable space: a floor and ceiling that change shape in response to movement. He then undertook the design and construction of the mechanism for both the prototype and final item (8,40m x 3,00m).
To create the morphing effect, he has connected the floor and the ceiling with a pulley system, comprising 630 chords at the one side of the structure. As visitors step on the platform, it dips down and triggers the pulleys to tighten and lift the roof into a dome shape. |
